Community Service

Embrace Challenge. Support One Another.

As part of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, Chavez Middle School students are encouraged to participate in community service throughout their middle school years.  By serving the community, it is the aim of IB that students gain a global perspective and see that we impact the lives of others through our own actions.

At Chavez students are encouraged to complete the following service hours:

Grade 6: 10 Hours

Grade 7: 20 Hours

Grade 8: 30 Hours

*Due to travel restraints, students may choose to complete all hours on or off campus.

Community Service: What's Happening

Where to Begin?

Students should strive to find a variety of service activities in order to broaden their horizons.  The idea is to find a way to help others, the environment, animals or a particular group in the community.  Activities may be local, regional, national or international in scope.

What doesn't count?

  • An activity in which you receive a tangible benefit or reward.

  • Any school activity in which you receive a grade or credit.

  • Practice hours for a performance activity.

  • Helping a relative or friend with chores or a job.

  • Participating in a religious activity or youth group with the purpose of promoting a given religion.
